The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SORS) produces a survey containing information on building permits for construction activity. The survey reports on data on residential and non-residential building permits.
Up until 2015, the data was collected from a monthly questions. Post 2015, SORS receives the data from the Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning. This new source also includes building permits classified as non-complex buildings (e.g garages and sheds).
SORS defines a building permit as a decision with which the authorized administrative body allows construction and with which it prescribes concrete conditions that have to be taken into consideration. The buildings used in this survey are defined as structures with one or more rooms into which a person can enter and are intended for residence or for performing an activity. There are two building classifications used: residential and non-residential. Residential refers to a building where at least half is used residentially. Non-residential refers to buildings where at least half is used non-residentially.
Provisional data is published on the reception date of the last building permit. This is usually 50 days after the reference period. The final data is published five months after the reference year at the latest.
