Release Information

The purpose of the statistical survey is to collect data on labour force (their number, structure, changes) and on the changes in the field of labour force. These data are important for assessing the situation and changes on the labour market in Slovenia.

Observation units are:

- persons in paid employment and self-employed persons who work and who have compulsory social insurance based on the employment contract

- farmers

- registered unemployed persons

Sources, coverage and method of data collection

The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia obtains data on persons in paid employment and self-employed persons (except farmers) from the Statistical Register of Employment (SRDAP). Until 2005 they obtained data on persons in paid employment from the Monthly Report on Earnings and Persons in Paid Employment in Enterprises, Companies and Organisations (ZAP/M).

In SRDAP those persons in paid employment and self-employed persons who have social insurance are taken into consideration, irrespective of whether they work full time or part time. Persons working under copyright contracts, contracts for work/service, unpaid family members, self-employed persons who do not pay social insurance and citizens of the Republic of Slovenia working in Slovenian enterprises, on construction sites, etc., abroad are not covered.

SRDAP is updated with data obtained from monthly M questionnaires, i.e. Registration of Data for Pension and Disability Insurance, Health Insurance, Parental Insurance and Employment Insurance (M-1, M-2, M-3, M-3A, M-DC).

The source of the data on the number of farmers is the Labour Force Survey (LFS), which was introduced in Slovenia in 1993 and has been carried out quarterly since 1997. The Slovene LFS is carried out in compliance with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) and Eurostat, so their results are internationally comparable.

For the breakdown of data on farmers by municipalities and statistical regions since 2002 they have been using the 2000 Census of Agricultural Holdings data. Before 2002, for the calculation of shares for individual territorial units the data from the 1991 Census was used.

In 2002 they also started to forecast the data on farmers according to the ARIMA model. In designing the model for 2010 they took into consideration quarterly data from the Labour Force Survey for the period from 1st quarter 2000 to 4th quarter 2009. Up to 2009 only influences of the ARIMA model were taken into consideration, while other influences (working days, outliers, etc.) were not. In the 2010 model they also took into consideration seasonal influences and outliers.

Data on registered unemployed persons and on registered and filled job vacancies are sent to us by the Employment Service of Slovenia.

On 1 January 2008 the new classification of activities of business entities NACE Rev. 2, which replaced NACE Rev 1.1, came into force in all EU Member States. In the Republic of Slovenia the national version of the standard classification, called SKD 2008, which includes the entire European classification of activities but also adds some national subclasses, came into force on the mentioned date.

The new classification brings many changes, which are the result of structural changes in the economy in recent years. Most of the changes thus involve market services and manufacturing. A very important change is the new structure of the classification, since there is no longer the level of subsection (2-digit code).

Methodological notes were obtained from the Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia.
