Statistics Canada provides statistics that help Canadians better understand their country, with data on population, resources, economy, society and culture. In short, they are often referred to as Statcan. Statcan is legislated to serve as Canada's central statistical agency for the whole of Canada and each of the provinces. Statcan's key socioeconomic database is called CANSIM. CANSIM is updated daily, but the data in the table here are only updated annually.
The data listed here in Crude birth rate, age-specific and total fertility rates (live births), and Deaths and mortality rates, by age group and sex, come from Tables 102-4505 and 102-0504, and Surveys 3231, 3233, 3604.
Statcan has various forms of obtaining information. A census is conducted every five years and there are about 350 active surveys on virtually all aspects of Canadian life.
