Release Information

The aim of the index of turnover, employment, wage and hours worked in retail trade for Portugal is to show the evolution of the market for goods and services in a given sector. The source conducts a monthly survey on turnover and employment in retail trade which is used to calculate the indices.

The source surveys companies based in the national territory, with a main activity that falls within industry, construction and public works, retail or services.

The employment index is not-seasonally adjusted. The retail sales indices are reported as not seasonally adjusted (NSA), seasonally adjusted (SA), calendar-day adjusted (CDA), and calendar day adjusted and seasonally adjusted (CDASA). Each retail sales index has a deflated retail sales volume index counterpart of the same seasonal adjustment reported.

The main activity is the activity that represents the most important activity carried out by the company and is classified by NACE rev.2.

Employment includes any persons engaged in productive activity.

The source defines a company as a legal entity (natural or legal person) corresponding to one unit organization of production of goods and / or services, enjoying a certain autonomy particularly in relation to the allocation of its current resources. A company may carry out one or more activities in one or more locations.
